Surgical Philosophy

The part that matters
isn't starting. It's how you finish.

Before I take anyone into the OR, I scope them myself. I don't cut until I've looked, whether insurance covers it or not. That's my rule.

The liver gets retracted before anything else. Not because it's protocol. Because you can't make good decisions when you can't see what you're working with. Poor visibility means poor judgment. I won't accept that.

After the stapler closes, I put in two more layers by hand. People have told me that's overkill. It isn't about doubting the equipment. It's about what I'm willing to put my name on.

Uncertainty during an operation is normal. Letting it show up in your movements isn't. If you haven't worked out the answer before you're in there, you shouldn't be in there yet.

Every decision has a reason. Every next step is already known. That's not a high bar. It's just the minimum I hold myself to.

From the Doctor

Everyone deserves to be taken seriously.

Every person who walks into the clinic comes with their own story.

Some have been trying for years. Some were told it was a willpower problem. Some aren't sure there's anything left to try. The stories are different, but what they're carrying feels the same.

I want to hear that story. Not just run the numbers and tell you what to do. What you're dealing with deserves to be genuinely heard, and then we figure out together what actually makes sense for you.

A surgeon who only knows how to operate won't be a good doctor. I learned that early on.

The Approach

Surgery, medication, or both.
Whatever works best for you.

Not because I'm a surgeon and surgery is what I do.
Because I want to find what actually helps you.

Dr. Kong-Han Ser

Surgeons are trained to operate. The risk is that everything starts to look like it needs one. My only real criterion is simpler: what's best for this person.

The progress in medical therapy has genuinely changed the options. For some people, medication alone produces real, meaningful change. Surgery isn't always the next step. For others, medication before surgery reduces risk and helps the body prepare; medication after surgery helps maintain results long-term.

That said, the body adapts. Short-term results don't guarantee long-term ones. Medication can be a meaningful part of the path. It just isn't always the end of it.

Every person's situation is different. My job is to help you find the right path for yours.
